Faiza is a 4th year student at U of T. She has a major in Human Biology with minors in both Psychology and Spanish. She likes to talk. A lot. And even with all that there is so much she leaves unsaid. So that's where poetry comes in. The pretty words are another outlet for all those pesky emotions. The Light That Shines Through shows thats no matter what happens in life, no matter where you go or what you do, Islam is the one constant in the equation that is life. It won't let you isolate yourself, it always manages to shine through.

The Light That Shines Through
I never thought
I could be so alone
Living in a world
That was once my own
It’s easy to love
It’s hard to hide
To wallow in hurt
Pain ever-present at my side
To long for comfort
And receive nothing of the sort
Putting up walls
To hide behind a self made fort
To feel hopeless and lost
As though nothing could save me
Darkness and darkness alone
As far as the eye can see
And yet a single light gets through
The cracks in the wall
And lifts the darkness
As I hear the call
For the world may have abandoned me
But not my Islam
Ever-present, always there
Providing me with a well needed calm.
